The Daily Stoic By Ryan Holiday & Stephen Hanselman Actionable Takeaways | Accelerator Notes #2

Welcome to Accelerator Notes 2, and this is all about The Daily Stoic. This is by Authors Ryan Hollday and Stephen Hanselman. I really wanted to talk a little bit about the notes that I’ve created from this book.

Instead of reading a book for two months (because it takes me that long) I look to summarise the key takeaways I can get from a book and what questions I can ask myself to make a difference in my life immediately.

The Daily Stoic

Choosing winnable battles:

It’s all about knowing what you can change and what you can’t change. It’s so important that we focus our energy on the things that we can influence. Think of all the battles upon which you waste energy, fighting battles in your head that you’re never going to win. You have to pay tax, for instance, so your time is better spent working on your systems for saving for taxes, rather than complaining about having to pay taxes.

Accept the things you can’t control.

When things to happen – accept what has happened and try and enjoy the process. Use phrases like “I don’t care.” People and things around you will try to distract you from your visions and targets, but learn to use the words “I don’t care.” That’s what I’m trying to do in my life. Embrace that you can control some things and go for those!

I used to really obsess about things, but the hard truth was that I had no influence, so it was just wasted energy.

Get Clarity:

Be clear on what you want and what your visions are. Believe in yourself. Feel that there’s a sense of guidance and don’t question yourself. If you feel the urge to take action in a certain direction because you’re attracted to it, just go with it. Feel yourself into it rather than questioning it. You need to remember that life is happening for you, not to you!

Learn To say I don’t care:

That is a big thing for me. I’m interested in people and things, but it’s very important for you to train yourself not to care, so in the future the things that you don’t care about will stop coming to look for you. It’s all about minimising distractions.

Immediately assess where you are focusing your energy! Are you focusing your energy in places where you have no control?

Here are a couple of questions for you to take away from this book.

How often are you saying that you don’t care? Or are you easily enticed into starting the next series or watching the news? How often do you admit that you don’t really care?

How clear are you on your path? How clear are you on what you want to achieve in your life and your goals? Because the clearer you are, the easier it is to decide what isn’t helping you and what you really don’t care about.

I hope you take away what I did from this book. Look out for the next Accelerator notes, because I know how busy life can be, I find these summaries really useful and I hope you do too!

Let me know in the comments if you appreciate this summary and keep taking massive action! 🙂
