Before I tell you how you can force consistency – the one thing that we have all been given is choice. That’s what makes us so unique. We have the choice to do what we want to do. I made the choice to create this content and you have chosen to absorb it. That means, although I am saying that you can force consistency, you have to choose to, commit and act!
There are two ways you can really force consistency over a period of time, from my own personal experience. One way is to commit an act from which there is no going back. An example from my life would be I quit my job and in the January for 2016 I was forced into building my business to a position where I could support my family.
I had to make this work because there was no going back. My last pay packet was gone! I’m not suggesting that you just quit your job – this is just a true example from my life. You have to do something, and only you will know what that is, that once you commit to this act, everything will change.
You’ll be out of your comfort zone and out of your safe zone. No longer can you say “Well if it doesn’t work out I’ll just go back.” There’s a great quote from Tony Robbins that says, “If you want to take on the island, burn your boats.” There is no going back – you either go forward or you die trying.
What do you have to commit to? What appointment do you have to make? What program do you need to purchase? Once you commit and you say “I will be there” You have the external pressure to make sure you follow through with whatever it is.
Whatever you want to call it, find yourself a group of people who force you to step up and make it completely unacceptable for you to not be consistent over a long period of time. You have to be very selective of who you surround yourself with. This is one of the biggest things that I did in my life. I’m very selective of the people who I have in my life and I surround myself with.
If you surround yourself with people who are taking action at all different levels to you, they will expect more from you and that will force you to step up. If you have a personal trainer in the gym who meets you at 5:30am every day and he’s going to kick your arse if you’re not there, you’re going to show up. That’s the power of having a coach.
I have a coach in my life who has incredibly high standards of me, and I don’t want to let that person down. I don’t want to let the people around me down, and that comes from that internal pressure that we can put ourselves under.
Surrounding yourself with a high achieving group will force you to step up your standards. It applies in all areas of your life. If you rock up to play golf and all your mates come with clubs, accessories and proper clothes and you’re just in trainers and a t-shirt, their behaviour will force you to step up!
These are the two things that I’ve done in my life and they’ve helped me massively to force consistency. From the 7 Habits of Highly Successful People, they tell us to sharpen the saw. Taking on these methods is a great way to make that happen!
I hope you enjoyed my tips for a consistent 2018! Let me know in the comments how you're doing and keep taking massive action! 🙂
