Working Patterns: Are You Working To A Smart Working Pattern That Is Empowering You?
Hello, this is Kev from LifeSuccessEngineer.com! Today, I wanted to write about working cycles and your working pattern.
Watch the video below:
I genuinely feel that everybody needs to have a working pattern. You can’t be all play, you can’t be all rest, you can’t be all work. You’ve got to set up a system that works for you.
The quarter pattern
Now, the pattern I’ve decided to incorporate into my life was the quarter pattern. What I mean by that is basically, I work in quarters. You’ve got the four quarters of the year and what I tend to do is I will have my quarter goals, which have been decided from my yearly goals and then at the end of every quarter, I make sure I have a big celebration.
The celebration doesn’t have to be something extravagant or going abroad on holiday (although obviously we would all want that) but you need to reward yourself at the end of any cycle that you choose.
So you could be doing a monthly cycle, but you should be setting goals anyway every month, every week and every day. But, I definitely feel that since I’ve changed my cycle in terms of my rewards to quarterly, it made a massive impact.
I’ve just reviewed Q1 and we have done really well and at the beginning of Q2, we went on a nice trip to Paris. This kind of rewards cycle not only stops you from burning out because you need to rest, but it also motivates you.
Short-range goals vs. Long-range goals
You should have short-range goals and long-range goals. The long-range goals might be as long as five to ten years so what tends to happen is people get discouraged because you don’t see the immediate reward. If you want to be a millionaire in ten years and you’ve barely scratched the surface after a month, you’re going to get discouraged. So whatever works for you, set up a cycle and try it!
I tried a monthly cycle but it didn’t really work for me because in my case, every single month I would take action and then reward myself but it wasn’t a substantial amount to celebrate because it’s stepping stones.
But in three months, you can get a lot done and this is what it really comes down to. Have a working pattern for yourself and commit to it. Just try it.
Success breeds success
Sometimes, the negative part about work is you don’t take the time to relax and reward yourself, but if you’re one of these people, force yourself to relax or have a weekend off because you did the work.
When you teach your body, mind and spirit that reward comes after hard work, you will naturally grow in motivation. That’s just the way it works. It will motivate you to push your inner drive to take action because you can then reward yourself after.
So try a working pattern and commit to it! Set your monthly and quarterly goals but also try to think of a cycle where you can reward yourself at the end. I’m starting my cycle back to work after a lovely trip with my family to Paris and I’m so excited for this next quarter and I can’t wait for my next celebration!
Could you get more out of your time with a new working pattern? Let me know in the comments if this helps! 🙂
