Do you know the difference between taking action and fake action?
The difference between you being successful or not is determined by taking massive action, but don’t fall into the trap of fake action. Fake action is an illusion, it’s the trap that many of us, including myself, have fallen into, but it’s actually preventing you from getting the success you want.
I’m going to explain why fake action is a trap, what it is, and how you know whether you’re falling into the trap and being held back.
Over the last 24 months, I’ve been able to achieve the things I’ve done because I’ve taken action. The whole personal development industry is a fantastic industry where you can really look within yourself to discover and empower yourself to take action and make a difference.
But what happens is so many people think because they are reading the books, visualising their future and journaling, they feel like they’re taking actual action. Don’t fall into the trap of reading and not applying anything. Don’t fall into the trap of just because you are visualising and meditating, that it’s going to lead to a physical outcome in your life.
Now, I’m not saying you shouldn’t do all these things, but what I am saying is what is the difference between where you are now to where you want to be?
For example, if you wanted to lose weight, you could read all the books, you can go to all the seminars, you can talk to as many fitness gurus out there as you like, but if you don’t get off your backside, put your shoes on and go running or to the gym, nothing is going to change for you in your life. If you don’t cut the junk food or assessing what you put in your body, nothing is going to change.
That is the action! The fake action is thinking because you’re consuming this knowledge you’re going to achieve the things you want, when in reality you could just get down to it and start taking action.
There are going to be times when you take action in the wrong direction, but that’s just part and parcel of success. You’ll have to change your approach, analyse yourself and keep reviewing, but you don’t want to be consumed by the idea that because you’re reading and visualising, that success will appear. The reality is, you’re going to have to do some work.
Exercise: Write yourself a letter!
A good exercise to do is to write yourself a letter, and you can do it for your future self or your past self. Write it for the person you want to become in two years, or to the person you were two years ago, and you can fast track this process.
I did this and wrote a letter to the person I was in 2015, and everything was all down to action.
Apply what you’re learning!
I think the ratio of consuming information to action should be 90% action and 10% learning and growing. Reviewing yourself and hiring coaches are good things to invest in, but you have to apply the things you’re learning and actually take action. That’s the biggest difference.
You go as you grow, nothing is perfect. I started my YouTube journey 18 months ago, back then I didn’t even know how to hold the camera, I had no idea what I was doing, but I persevered and in six months, 12 months, I will have built assets with videos that will help people.
Are you taking action in your business every single day? Are you building those systems? Are you applying the knowledge you’re consuming in your life? Are you hitting the gym? Are you actually doing?
Be committed, be relentless, be as consistent as possible in taking action and you will be so productive. Your productivity will go off the scales once you get into the nitty gritty taking action every day. There are no shortcuts. You’ve got to do the right things every single day.
Let me know your thoughts on this idea of fake action, and let me know how you’re taking measurable action in your life! Be inspired but get to the bread and butter and think about what will help you get that progress!
Are you taking action to make your dreams come true? Let me know in the comments! 🙂
