Don’t fall into the trap. That phrase, we’ve all heard of it, has become obsolete, it’s outdated, The reality is that we have to work hard AND smart. I believe it’d more appropriate to say “work smarter, work harder”.
The old saying implies that it’s all about working smarter – so if you’re working hard, banging your head against the wall, doing the same thing over and over again, putting more effort in and not actually growing and achieving you desired outcomes, by only working harder you’re only going to get the same results. Change your approach and work in a different way.
What I’d like to say is that I believe that’s now outdated! It’s not actually the case anymore; what I’ve found is that if you want to start a business, achieve personal or physical goals, you have to work equally hard as you do smart.
I shared a great video yesterday about my content creation strategy explaining how I’m publishing a lot of content very quickly.
Am I working any less hard?
No I’m not, in fact I’m working just as hard. All I’m doing is that for every video I create I recycle the content for podcasts, social media accounts and transcripts on my blog, that’s all just from one bit of content and I’m working smartly by distributing that same content multiple times.
That’s working smartly; I don’t then say to myself that because I’ve worked smartly I’m not going to work hard. In fact, quite the opposite – I work extra hard. I’m creating as much content as I possibly can, thus working smarter and harder to create more and more content.
In this day and age, if you don’t continue to work as hard as you do smart, you’re going to be left behind. The reality is that there’s somebody out there right now working extremely hard to catch up to and overtake you to try and make something of their life. They’re not considering taking a day off because they worked smartly yesterday.
I want you to take this with a pinch of salt!
I don’t want you to think that all I’m saying is you should work 18 hours per day relentlessly, because you have to balance all areas of your life. What I’m trying to say is you should be looking after your health, relationships and anything else that’s important to you, but have the mindset that you could always be working smarter and harder.
Don’t fall into the old way of thinking, “work smart and not hard”.
That’s all I did…
With my content creation strategy, I work hard creating content for videos, blogs and podcasts. Then I thought to myself, why do I not work smarter? I can just create a ten minute video, then outsource and streamline everything else. That gives me time to work hard creating more content, but massively increasing how much content can be published elsewhere out of a singular video.
Facebook, Google, Apple – these guys are working extremely smartly, but they’re also working extremely hard. They never settle down, they’re always on the next project before the previous one is even complete, ready to launch the new Iphone six months after the previous model.
If you adopt this technique, continuously review yourself and think “am I working as smartly as possible?” If there is an aspect you can outsource or systematise, allowing you to put that effort into something else, then that can have a rapid effect on your business and your life as a whole
The game’s changed – work smart, work hard!
That’s the new way of living, and if you adopt this strategy then you will go far.
Could you be working smarter AND harder? Comment below and let me know if this helps 🙂
